The cost of custom furniture cannot be read off a catalogue, because every project is individual: two wardrobes of the same length can differ in price by a factor of two. This guide explains exactly which factors create the cost, where a budget can genuinely be saved, and which savings turn out expensive in the long run.
Why there is no single price per square metre
You will often see prices quoted per square metre or per linear metre. The figure is convenient for advertising but rarely reflects a real project, because two wardrobes of the same length can have entirely different structures and interiors.
The difference comes from what dimensions do not show: how many drawers there are and what runners they sit on, whether doors are hinged or sliding, whether there is internal lighting, whether fronts are flat or milled, whether the unit is a standard height or runs to the ceiling.
That is why every project here starts with an individual estimate. For a free estimate we only need the dimensions of the space or a floor plan - the reply shows what costs what and where an alternative is worth discussing.
Five factors that create the cost
The first is dimensions and the volume of construction - how much material and how many working hours are required.
The second is material. Laminate board (DSP) is the most economical solution; laminated and painted MDF sit in the mid segment; natural wood veneer - oak, walnut, hornbeam - belongs to the premium level.
The third is the type of front: flat fronts are more economical, milled or painted ones cost more because they take more processing.
The fourth is hardware. Blum is Austrian premium class and costs more than GTV; GTV is a dependable, high-technology alternative.
The fifth is extras: integrated LED lighting, glass sections, quartz or engineered stone tops, non-standard shapes and curved elements.
Where you can save and where you should not
Saving makes sense where the effect on visual or functional quality is minimal. The internal carcass of a wardrobe can be built from a more economical material while the visible fronts stay premium. It is also often sensible to plan lighting only in the sections that genuinely need it.
The second real lever is ordering in stages: kitchen and hallway first, bedroom later. What matters is that dimensions and materials are fixed in one project, so the same colour and texture can be matched at the second stage.
The saving that costs dearly is on hardware. Hinges and runners work dozens of times a day and are the first things to fail. Replacing cheap hardware later costs more than choosing correctly at the start.
What the price includes and what it does not
At BauRaum consultation, on-site measuring and 3D visualisation are free - those stages are not part of the price and commit you to nothing. Production only begins once you approve the visualisation.
The agreed price covers production in our workshop, delivery and installation by our own crew, and a written five-year warranty on the structure and hardware.
What sits outside the furniture is discussed separately: kitchen appliances, plumbing, levelling walls or moving electrical wiring. If such work is needed it comes to light during measuring and is discussed in advance, so no unexpected cost appears later.
Payment, instalments and lead times
The payment scheme is simple: 50% up front against the approved project and the remaining 50% once installation is complete. The price, the stages and the lead time are fixed in a written contract.
Interest-free instalments are available on Bank of Georgia and TBC Bank cards, which spreads a one-off cost across several months.
On timing: a standard order takes 30-40 working days, a complex project 40-47 working days. The clock starts on the day you approve the 3D visualisation, so quick decisions at the design stage genuinely speed up delivery.
