Made-to-order children's furniture lets you plan the room around your child's age, height and habits instead of a catalogue standard. At the BauRaum workshop the entire cycle happens in house: free measuring, 3D visualisation, production in our own facility and installation by our own crew in Tbilisi and across Georgia.
Why a child's room needs an individual plan
A child's room is a bedroom, a playroom and a study at the same time. Those three functions often have to fit into ten or twelve square metres, which is practically impossible with standard furniture.
A bespoke project lets us combine them: drawers for toys go under the bed, and the desk is planned by the window where the daylight is. That frees up the floor area a child actually needs for play.
Height matters as much. Shelves a child can reach build independence, while high sections stay for seasonal items and things a parent keeps control of. That is where the design starts - we map out the child's day first and draw the furniture second.
What we build for a child's room
The bed can be a simple one, a bed with storage drawers, or a bunk bed - the last being a real help for families with two children sharing a room. For bunk construction we pay particular attention to the ladder and the safety rail.
The study desk is often planned as part of a wardrobe or shelving system, bringing the work surface, book shelves and lockable drawers into a single line.
Wardrobes for children are built with a low hanging rail so they can reach their own clothes. To that we add open boxes and niches for toys, since open storage makes tidying up far easier. We also build complete sets for teenagers, designed with the logic of adult furniture.
Materials and safety details
Furniture in a child's room takes intense daily use, so carcasses are built from high-density laminate board (DSP), with laminated or painted MDF for the fronts - the latter offering the widest colour range.
Safety is handled at the construction level: rounded edges instead of sharp corners, wardrobes and shelving fixed to the wall against tipping, and soft-close mechanisms on doors and drawers that reduce the risk of trapped fingers.
Our hardware comes from Blum and GTV. For a bunk bed we calculate the structural load separately, along with the step spacing on the ladder, so that climbing is comfortable and safe.
Furniture that grows with the child
A child changes noticeably in three years; furniture stays for far longer. That is why we plan systems that adapt easily: shelves whose height can be changed, a desk that suits both a small child and a teenager, and neutral fronts you can restyle with accessories.
We often plan two stages at once: the lower part of the wardrobe holds toys today, and in five years the same section takes books and school supplies. The structure does not change - only what goes inside it.
That is what separates a bespoke project from ready-made furniture: the spend happens once and lasts, and the five-year warranty covers both the structure and the hardware.
Process, lead time and price factors
1. Free consultation and measuring - we measure the room, record the position of window, door and sockets, and listen to how your child uses the space.
2. Free 3D visualisation - you see the room with its colours, textures and layout; production starts only once you approve it.
3. Production in our workshop - a standard order takes 30-40 working days, a complex project 40-47 working days.
4. Delivery and installation - our own crew assembles everything on site and fixes it to the wall.
The price depends on dimensions, materials, front type and hardware, plus extras such as lighting, bunk construction or non-standard shapes. Payment is 50% up front and 50% on installation, with interest-free instalments on Bank of Georgia and TBC Bank cards.
